Co-Curricular Activities
“There is no one ‘best’ CCA. Each CCA has different demands, which in turn help students develop varied strengths.” - National Institute of Education’s (NIE) Science of Learning in Education Centre’s centre director, Professor David Hung.

Our Belief
Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) are a key component of students' holistic education. Through CCA, students discover their interests and talents, and sustained participation allows them to progressively develop CCA-specific knowledge, skills and values. Beyond skill development, CCA can fuel in students a lifelong love for a particular activity and help them lead a balanced life in adulthood.
CCA provides varied and authentic opportunities for students to learn, apply and demonstrate values, social-emotional competencies and 21st Century Competencies. It also promotes social interaction by providing a common space for friendships and social integration among students of diverse backgrounds, helping them develop a sense of identity and belonging to the school.
CCA participation is compulsory for all students in secondary schools, as students at this level are more independent and better able to commit to the rigour that CCA specialisation requires. As they approach adolescence, secondary students also enter a period of pliable character and identity formation that is particularly well-suited for fostering the learning outcomes that CCA offers.
Our Approach
At Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School, students are holistically developed through a 3E approach:
Exposure – students are given authentic opportunities to learn, apply and demonstrate values, social-emotional competencies and 21st Century Competencies beyond the classroom.
Experience – students are guided by development plans that nurture their talents and shape their characters in meaningful ways.
Excellence – students are supported in striving for the highest standards in their respective CCAs, with the school providing a range of opportunities to foster personal growth and a sense of mastery.
The delivery of CCAs is learner-centred, and our Student Development Plans (SDPs) are intentionally designed to shape character and citizenship as students work towards the achievement of 21st Century Competencies and Student Outcomes.
