Our Approach

AISS Student Leadership Framework

We are intentional in developing our student leaders through purposeful leadership opportunities and training. Guided by Kouzes and Posner’s Student Leadership Challenge model, we take a tiered approach that progressively builds students' capacity to lead themselves, lead others, and lead the school and beyond.

We aim to nurture student leaders who are proactive, adaptable and critical thinkers, as well as confident communicators who lead with empathy and compassion, and who are ready to serve and contribute meaningfully to the community as positive agents of change.

Student Leaders at AISS 

Student Councillors

The Student Council plays a key role in fostering school spirit and bringing vibrancy to the school community. 

Student Councillors serve the interests of their peers by organising school events and celebrations, including Orientation for Secondary 1 students and Educators’ Day. They also serve as the voice of their peers – listening to their concerns, representing their interests, and working closely with the school to continually improve the student experience.

Peer Support Leaders

Peer Support Leaders are student leaders who go the extra mile to look out for those around them. 

Guided by the Peer Support and Relationship Framework, Peer Support Leaders work across three key areas – Peer Supporting, Peer Bonding, and Peer Influencing – to provide practical help and socio-emotional support, nurture a sense of belonging, and champion positive mindsets and behaviours. They put this framework into practice through thoughtfully planned activities at both the class and school level.

CCA Leaders

CCA Leaders play a vital role in ensuring that CCA activities are well-organised, engaging, and inclusive for all members. They plan and execute events, mentor younger members, and help build a culture of camaraderie and excellence within their CCA.

Class Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons play a key role in shaping the culture of their classrooms. By cultivating a shared sense of identity and belonging, they strengthen class spirit and help foster a positive and inclusive environment.

Community Youth Leaders

Community Youth Leaders learn to lead with purpose and champion care, service, and active citizenship within the school and wider community. By organising meaningful initiatives, they cultivate a culture of empathy, deepen students' sense of contribution to society, and create a positive impact on those around them.
