Enhanced Music Programme (EMP)
"Music is the universal language of mankind." — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Enhanced Music Programme (EMP)
The Enhanced Music Programme (EMP) is a two-year upper secondary programme that allows students with musical potential, aptitude and passion to pursue a deeper study of music. AISS is one of only four schools in Singapore to offer the EMP and serves as a G3 Music Centre for students from other schools across Singapore.
Lower secondary students may enroll in our Music Preparatory Course (MPC), which prepares them for the EMP at upper secondary, culminating in the SEC G3 Music or Higher Music examinations.
Our Belief
We believe that every student is inherently musical and has the capacity to express themselves meaningfully through music. Through purposeful learning, creative exploration, and authentic musical experiences, we aim to nurture confident, creative, and expressive individuals with a lifelong appreciation for music.
Our Approach
Our comprehensive curriculum caters to various interests and aptitude levels, and comprises three main components: Music Studies, Creating and Performing.
Learning is active, collaborative, and authentic. Students engage in hands-on music-making, active listening, and collaborative tasks that foster creativity, communication, and teamwork. Beyond the classroom, a range of enrichment opportunities allows students to deepen their musical experiences and broaden their perspectives.
Workshops and Masterclasses
Students participate in workshops and masterclasses conducted by professional musicians and arts practitioners. These experiences, which include Asian music workshops and performance masterclasses, expose students to diverse musical traditions and deepen their musical understanding.

Learning Journeys and Concert Experiences
Students extend their learning beyond the classroom through concert-going opportunities and learning journeys. Exposure to performances such as opera, symphony orchestra, and Chinese orchestra concerts enables students to experience live music and develop informed and discerning listening skills.
Performance Opportunities
Students are provided with opportunities to perform both as soloists and in ensembles. These include lunchtime showcases and mosAIc, our biennial performing arts concert, where students share their musical talents with the school community and wider audience.

Collaborative Arts-Making
Students collaborate with peers within and beyond the school through interdisciplinary activities. These include our partnership with Eunoia Junior College on art-music interdisciplinary projects, as well as the annual Combined EMP and MEP Schools' Camp for Secondary 3 students organised by the Ministry of Education.
How to Join Us
Selection exercises for the Music Preparatory Course and Enhanced Music Programme are conducted during Secondary 1 and Secondary 2 as part of our talent identification process. The selection exercise comprises a listening test, performing audition and interview.
