Our Belief

As one of three designated schools for visually-impaired learners, we champion for inclusive education not simply for this student segment but for all learners with unique challenges and needs including and not limited to students with special education needs.Inclusivity for us means that learning opportunities are fully accessible to all students, with timely and appropriate needs-based support provided by our trained personnel in the school.

We also believe that through their four to five years with us, this student segment will graduate as courageous, competent and independent lifelong learners. We aim to prepare them not just for post-secondary institutions but for the world of work. 

A final belief we have is to foster deep levels of empathy in all our students as they learn and play alongside one another. Universal values and soft skills such as mutual respect, kindness active listening and suspending judgement are emphasised in our school.

Our Approach

Aligned to our Stretch-Mass-Support approach to Teaching and Learning, all students are given access to learning experiences by all teachers employing inclusive pedagogies and strategies. These include fostering empathetic classroom environments where all students are cognisant of diversity in their classrooms and how they can act with kindness.

Beyond that, for students identified to be needing more support in various areas, their needs will be observed and appropriate intervention provided by trained personnel in the school to meet these needs.

Partnerships

To fully support our VI students in their school and life experience, partnerships are vital in strengthening the ecosystem for this group. We work closely with various branches within MOE and with schools and organisations in the community in Singapore. We are also working at establishing sustained partnerships with schools for the visually-impaired in other countries such as Australia. These are our sustained partners over the years.
