Our Belief
The St. John Brigade offers cadets a unique blend of practical skills, leadership development, and character-building opportunities in line with the mission “Pro Fide, Pro Utilitate Hominum (For the Faith, For the Service of Humanity)”. Through comprehensive training in essential First Aid and Home Nursing, cadets acquire vital skills that enable them to respond to real-life emergencies with compassion, confidence and competence. Selected cadets who go through Hospital Attachment Programme are also well prepared for higher education and careers in healthcare.
Our Adventures
Competitions: Cadets train twice a week to learn and hone their first aid and home nursing skills so that they pit their skills against other schools in district and national first aid competitions.
Values in Action: Cadets actively serve the community by serving as first aiders in national events such as the Chingay Parade and National Day Parade.
Drills and Casualty Transport: Weekly foot drill training instils discipline, teamwork, resilience, and unity and provides cadets with the opportunity to take part in parades and ceremonies within school or to march for the National Day Parade. The sharp coordination, and immediate execution of commands through regular marching practice helps the stretcher-bearing team to collaborate seamlessly, actively listen, and use precise verbal cues to navigate obstacles as they train to evacuate casualty without worsening the injury.
Leadership training: Cadets participate annually in the Basic and Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers’ Courses (BNCO and ANCO). These courses combine theoretical and experiential learning through camps and empower the cadets to build resilience, confidence, and communication skills and allow them to discover their leadership potential, strengthen teamwork, and build lifelong values that shape them into confident and compassionate leaders. Senior cadets serve as certified instructors who teach first aid, home nursing and foot drills to juniors. This requires them to break down complex medical jargon and parade commands into simple directives and use high levels of interpersonal communication to guide their juniors in the right direction.
Achievements: Cadets participate in meaningful activities to earn proficiency badges and work towards the prestigious Chief Commissioner’s Badge. The Cadet Proficiency Badge Scheme (CPBS) motivate cadets to broaden their skills beyond regular curriculum and to foster an all-rounded education, encouraging personal growth and complementing St John’s core value of First Aid, preparing them for further education and careers after secondary school.
